Stage 2 – Start Sailing Course

Overview

Our Start Sailing Course is for kids who want to continue the thrill of sailing after their Try Sailing experience. You will now join the club as a Junior Learn To Sail (LTS) Member. This membership is inclusive of all Saturday training sessions during the sailing season as you progress through our Junior LTS Program on your way to becoming a confident sailor.

The Start Sailing Course stage of our programisdelivered in small groups by an Australian Sailing qualified Instructor and Assistant Instructors. The curriculum delivers the “Start Sailing 1” and “Start Sailing 2” components of Australian Sailings “Discover Sailing” program. Kids will learn the fundamentals of sailing in our Quest dinghies.

Information

When

Start Sailing sessions are held over 23 Saturdays during the sailing season from Sept to April. (As a guide, between 8 to 12 sessions would be required to achieve the certificate)

 

Times

8.30am to 10.30am Saturday

 

Prerequisites

Completion of the Try Sailing program or if the sailor has previous sailing experience this will be assessed by the Club Coach

 

What to Bring   

Clothes & Shoes - wear ones you don't mind getting wet

A towel and a change of clothes and shoes.
Drink Bottle, Hat & Sunscreen

 

What’s included

A 2 hour To Sail session in a Quest training dinghy with an accredited instructor each Saturday morning until completion of the certificate requirements

Use of a club l buoyancy vest (PFD)

 

Parent Involvement

 

As a parent or guardian of a Junior Sailor we encourage you to become involved. Being involved in the rigging and de-rigging of boats, helping in support boats and learning some basic sailing concepts is a great way to support your Junior sailor.

 

Cost

The Start Sailing Course is all inclusive with a Junior LTS Membership

  • Junior LTS Membership – $390 per season for the 1st child and $300 per season for further children.

An Associate Membership for one Parent/Guardian is included in this membership package
